A map-based research portal linking Palestinian lived experience and collective visioning to geographic points in Palestine
Our mission:
olives & sheep is a living map of the occupied West Bank, our current area of focus, where ongoing patterns occurring throughout 1948 Israel, Gaza and occupied Jerusalem are particularly clear, current events. We produce a map-based research portal linking citizen journalism and archival materials directly to an online cartographic platform. olives & sheep offers an array of educational content and sources seen in fuller spatial, historic and thematic contexts. We are a new space for collective visioning beyond the limitations of mainstream media representations of Palestine. We wholeheartedly support the Right of Return for Palestinian refugees, and the principles of the BDS Movement, and see olives & sheep as a potential tool to reveal Palestinian-led futures in Historic Palestine.
olives & sheep relies upon established and vetted data leaders in the field, namely UN-OCHA, B'Tselem and Open Street Maps for our base layers. We accept and utilize data and documentation from additional NGOs, as well as activists, journalists and researchers recommended through our trusted networks.
Who we serve
olives & sheep was designed and built to be an ever growing educational resource for and by NGOs, activists, researchers and grassroots communities. It is a tool for advocacy, research and journalism towards a liberated Palestine. We seek input from our users as we strive to better serve our collective and evolving needs for visionary, land-based research tools, towards actualizing a better future for all of us in Historic Palestine and the world.
